10/12/2020- Day 1 Brain and Spine Hospital 10 PCU
Billy is more with it today. We were joking about his crazy day yesterday. He said it was the strangest experience and very hard to be on the other end as a neuro patient. In his moment of confusion, he became very mad about the MRI and how much his head was in excruciating pain. He couldn't understand why so many people were messing with him and making him do things that increased the headache pain. 11/10 is what he described it which is NOT a typical description from him. We as nurses chuckle about people saying things like "11/10" (usually while relaxing in bed flipping through their phones), so I knew he was being serious. All he kept thinking was if he picked someone up and threw them in the MRI that maybe he could make his escape. Then he said that something was telling him "no, don't do that," and then he heard my voice and it helped him get through it. His left vision field is affected and he's a bit "off," but funny "off" not mean/nasty off which I thank God for! Seeing him yesterday concerned me that he might be emotionally unstable and aggressive after this. God answered my prayers because this was a total fear of mine. However, he has a lot more "dad" jokes than usual, but that would totally be him as a neuro patient. He kept asking for me to be here and looks more at peace now. I'm pretty sure everyone he encountered he told them that all he wanted was to see his wife. One day at a time, he's doing well. After his neuro workup, they will be sending him to Dodd for rehab. He has already started working with occupational therapy and he had an echo cardiogram to rule out anything cardiac related. They also plan on doing a sleep study this evening to rule out sleep apnea post stroke. For now, he isn't eating much, needs a lot of prompting to do tasks, is sleepy, and just wants to drink hot tea. He's finding enjoyment in the little things.
Thank you for all of the prayers. Things are looking much better for his recovery.
